Coronado Band
Band

High school offers a wealth of opportunities for band instrumentalists to grow and excel in their musical journey.

Marching Band takes center stage in the fall semester, performing at football games, pep assemblies, and both in-state and out-of-state competitions. For students passionate about concert literature, there are two outstanding ensembles: Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble Honors. All students begin in Symphonic Band and may audition for Wind Ensemble Honors, which requires preparation of state-level scales, etudes, and sight-reading. Both ensembles perform at state-level competitions and may participate in spring trips to compete out of state.

For those who love jazz, Jazz Band is offered each spring. Students audition for chair placement and have the chance to compete at state competitions, with the possibility of an out-of-state spring tour.

Percussionists and colorguard members also have dedicated opportunities. The Percussion Ensemble welcomes all percussionists and those interested in learning percussion, while Band Auxiliary supports colorguard members. These courses, typically held in the fall, often collaborate with Marching Band and concert ensembles. They may also support winterguard competitive seasons and offer spring opportunities for advanced performance.

For guidance and assistance with registration, please reach out to your school’s band director. Whether your passion lies in marching, concert, jazz, percussion, or colorguard, there’s a place for you in the band program to thrive and succeed!

Choir

High school choir offers an exceptional opportunity for students to elevate their choral skills and pursue their passion for singing.

Students entering high school are encouraged to register for Concert Choir, the foundational ensemble. Those seeking a more advanced experience may audition for Varsity Choir. The most accomplished vocalists can audition for the Advanced Vocal Ensemble, which represents the highest level of performance. This audition follows the state audition process, requiring preparation of a solo piece, sight-reading, and additional components.

Students can also explore specialized ensembles such as Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, and Jazz Choir, each offering unique musical experiences.

To find the best fit, contact your school’s choral director for guidance and placement. These ensembles regularly compete in local and, at times, out-of-state competitions, providing students with enriching and rewarding performance opportunities. Discover the joy of singing and join a choir that inspires excellence!

SUSD Dance Festival Dancers
Dance

High school offers students their first opportunity to participate in dance as part of a performing ensemble. With multi-level courses available, the program caters to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced dancers.

Dance I is an introductory course designed for students with no prior dance experience. As students progress, they can enroll in Dance II and Dance III, where they will develop more advanced techniques and a deeper understanding of dance. Students with prior dance experience are encouraged to contact the school’s dance instructor to audition for placement in a higher-level course.

At the pinnacle of the program are Dance IV Honors and the Honor Performance Dance Ensemble, which require an audition. These courses are designed for students with the highest level of performance skills and technical knowledge.

Advanced-level classes also have the exciting opportunity to participate in out-of-state field trips, performance clinics, and competitions. For more information or to connect with the program, please reach out to your school’s dance instructor. Take your passion for dance to new heights!

Strings

Our Strings program offers a wide range of opportunities for performers at every skill level, from beginners to advanced musicians.

For those new to high school, learning a new string instrument, or seeking to improve their technique, Concert Orchestra is the ideal starting point. Students who have developed a solid foundation in their playing are encouraged to audition for Advanced Concert Orchestra or Symphonic Orchestra Honors. These advanced ensembles require preparation of scales (major and melodic minor), an etude or solo piece, and sight-reading as part of the audition process. Following the audition, students will be placed in the ensemble that best aligns with their current technical proficiency.

Our higher-level ensembles not only challenge students artistically but also provide opportunities to compete at state and even out-of-state events.

Additionally, some of our high schools offer Guitar classes, including beginning and advanced levels. These courses focus on classical guitar techniques, with advanced classes introducing the possibility of exploring electric guitar.

For guidance and more information, please reach out to the orchestra teacher at your school. Take the next step in your musical journey with us!

Theatre

The high school Theatre program offers a range of courses designed to engage students at all skill levels and interests. The journey begins with Theatre I, where students learn the fundamentals of theater, including staging and design. From there, students can progress to Theatre II to refine their acting skills or explore the technical side of theater through Technical Theatre I, focusing on set building, lighting, and sound.

For those looking to advance further, the program offers Theatre III and IV for dedicated actors and Technical Theatre II and III for students in the CTE pathway. These advanced courses provide opportunities to compete at state-level competitions, with potential for out-of-state performances or clinics.

Whether you aspire to be on stage or behind the scenes, there is a path for you in the Theatre program. For guidance in selecting the best course to fit your goals, please reach out to the Theatre Director at your school. Unleash your creativity and take center stage in your theatrical journey!
